Honest note: establishment is the hard part. Keep livestock off the new stand until it is well-rooted — grazing too early pulls seedlings out by the crown and thins the stand for years.

How much shade can it take?
It performs best at 40–60% canopy shade. Under very dense canopy, thin the trees first — no forage thrives in deep shade.
When should I overseed?
Early spring or late summer, into a lightly disturbed seedbed, ahead of reliable moisture.

Most pasture mixes sulk under trees. This one is formulated for it — shade-tolerant orchardgrass and timothy paired with white clover, birdsfoot trefoil, and chicory. The legumes fix 80–150 lbs of nitrogen per acre a year, so the whole stand feeds itself and cuts your fertilizer bill.
