How much maintenance does it need?
Rinse the filter weekly and soak the nozzles in citric acid monthly. Skipping this is the main cause of clogged nozzles.
Is this good for a first hydroponic build?
Honestly, no — start with a DWC bucket or NFT channel. Aeroponics is the fastest but least forgiving method.

Why we grow it this way
Roots in the air
Aeroponics suspends roots in open air and feeds them a fine 50-micron fog. With that much oxygen at the root zone, plants grow noticeably faster than in water culture. This is a high-pressure setup — a real 80 PSI diaphragm pump, brass nozzles, an accumulator tank, and a cycle timer — not a low-pressure toy.
