Honest note: bare-root seedlings must go in the ground promptly and stay watered the first two summers. They look like sticks on arrival — that is normal; keep the roots moist and they leaf out.

Yes — chestnuts need cross-pollination. Plant at least two, ideally more, within 200 feet for good nut set.
How should I protect young trees?
